YSDNDYart (Your Skin Does Not Define You) is an independent portraiture practice founded by London-based self-taught artist Tahira Tofa. Through vibrant, expressive colour, Tahira explores identity, emotion and our shared humanity.
Her portraits intentionally move away from conventional skin tones, inviting viewers into a realm where identity transcends pigmentation. Through her work, she celebrates individuality while challenging racial bias and stereotypes, encouraging audiences to look beyond appearance and really see the individual.
Join Tahira for a YSDNDYart Sip & Paint, where you’ll be invited to explore colour, identity and self-expression in a fun and relaxed environment. The evening will begin with a short introduction to Tahira’s artistic practice and the ideas behind YSDNDYart, followed by a guided Sip & Paint activity.
No previous artistic experience is needed. A range of portrait outlines featuring both men and women will be provided, allowing you to focus on experimenting with colour, trusting your intuition and expressing yourself creatively.
After creating your portrait, you’ll have the opportunity to reflect on the colours you’ve chosen and explore how, or if, they resonate with how you were feeling at the time - a process inspired directly by Tahira’s own artistic practice.
Come along and get creative in a whole new way!
