Spotlight: Cerys Legrand
— 4 Sep 2018, 20:25 by Lauren Furey
Performer and artist Cerys Legrand dominated at GRL GNG's event in August. We caught up with her to find out more.
Tell us who you are and what you do.
Wow! Questions like these are so hard to answer because I feel like each person creates a their own perception of everyone they meet depending on their own self. But I see myself as someone just striving to be the best version of themselves and that includes pursuing music, it's something which drives my passion and gives me a sense of purpose. I'm a singer/songwriter who just writes what she feels; I have to create.
Describe your performance at GRL GNG last month?
Last month at GRL GNG I served new electronic R&B vibes expressing everything I've been working on, including new music and improved vocals and performance. You gotta have the whole package!
How did you get involved with GRL GNG?
I got involved through Instagram! I think it's amazing that the internet connects people like this and it was such a blessing to be involved in such an amazing platform, especially being from Bournemouth where things like this never happen! I'd been following Naysap and GRL GNG for a while and just loved seeing everything they'd been doing in London, so I had to send in a lil' vid of me singing, then they chose me for the event.
GRL GNG empowers female artists, is this something that feels important to you right now?
100%! I think that'll always be something so important to me, growing up around women and being inspired by the power of women definitely fuels me, especially when sometimes we don't realise just how much power we have. The industry is obviously male dominated so being able to have a platform for gals who don't just serve a pretty face and sex appeal but also bars and swag is so, so important; the industry definitely still needs to be more welcoming of all types of girls, which I feel GRL GNG does so perfectly.
What does the rest of 2018 have in store for you?
I'm just gonna keep working on new music and releasing more content to get more people knowing my name.
What was the last song you listened to?
My unreleased track! You'll have to keep your eyes peeled!
