IT'S HOME - ENGLAND'S LIONESSES make HISTORY!
England win their first major women's tournament 2-1 at Wembley
In a day that will go down in English football history, the magnificent Lionesses edged out long-time footballing rivals Germany in extra time with an epic display of guts and guile.
In front of the biggest crowd to ever assemble for a European Championships final (men’s or women’s), Ella Toone opened the scoring in the second half with an exquisite lob before Germany’s Lina Magull equalised with just 11 minutes of normal time remaining. Step up Chloe Kelly, who ket her cool in the first half of extra time to score from close range and send fans watching all over the country into raptures.
The scenes at all three BOXPARK venues were incredible. Unsurprisingly, we were sold out across the board and fans were treated to an epic warm up courtesy of our amazing hosts…and a few surprises. At Shoreditch, The Shejay and Chux had the crowd in fine voice before the match, whilst over at Croydon the legendary duo of Goldie Quaker and Lady Leshurr took control of proceedings before a surprise performance from Bradley and Tina from pop royalty S Club 7 had everyone reaching for the stars. The Dominos capped off a memorable day with an electric live performance. And at our official Fanpark at Wembley, Martin 2 Smoove had those lucky enough to have tickets to the match in fine voice as they belted out Sweet Caroline and Football’s Coming Home before making their journey down Wembley Way to the stadium.
BOXPARK’s reputation as the ultimate place to experience live football was cemented as film crews flocked to all three sites and images of fans celebrating were broadcast around the world.
