OF CABBAGES KINGS 3

We're delighted to welcome Of Cabbages and Kings to BOXPARK Shoreditch for a week-long pop-up out of unit 15.

Of Cabbages and Kings is a shop and gallery space in Stoke Newington, London. Working with aspiring homegrown indie talent alongside established UK artists and designers, the shop stocks a handpicked selection of stationery, jewellery, and homewares. The gallery specialises in original and affordable limited edition prints. With an ethos of nurturing local, the focus behind the OC&K brand has always been authenticity, sustainability and products made in the UK, wherever possible from responsibly sourced and recycled materials.

Tell us about yourself...

Not only a shop and gallery, Of Cabbages and Kings is also a creative hub that brings together a broad network of like-minded people across the community. It’s through holding regular exhibitions showcasing emerging and established artists, working with local charities, hosting workshops, events and knit nights, that we feel connected to the area.

Our journey began in 2008 when we opened our first boutique just off Church Street. Its long-standing reputation for creativity and independent business made Stoke Newington the perfect fit. OC&K became a Stokey staple renowned for original and imaginative design and over the following four years the brand grew, setting up a monthly makers’ market that ran alongside the shop.

In 2012 OC&K joined forces with Knit with attitude©, an ethical yarn shop, and together we took up residence at 127 Stoke Newington High Street. One side of the room is a wall of wool; boxes filled with brightly coloured balls of yarn, on the other is the OC&K wall of products, pictures and prints. Bold, bright and colourful! We are very excited to be taking our space to Shoreditch this November.

Which song best sums up your brand?

Can we have a poem instead? The name Of Cabbages and Kings is taken from Lewis Carroll’s The Walrus and The Carpenter: "The time has come," the Walrus said, "To talk of many things: Of shoes and ships and sealing-wax Of cabbages and kings And why the sea is boiling hot And whether pigs have wings."

What can we expect from your stay at BOXPARK?

We'll be heading south from HQ in Stoke Newington with our carefully curated collection of prints and gifts. The perfect one-stop shop for Christmas! What's more, we will be resurrecting our awesome display of Mike Hall's 32 London Borough Maps.

Expect to see indie brands such as Wolf & Moon, Hoxton Mini Press, Stuart Gardiner, Ola Studio, Custom Made and Green & Blue, as well as art prints and posters from the likes of 45 Original, Liam Devereux, Underway Studio, Ploterre, Fiftyseven, Marc Gooderham, Mister Peebles, Tom Pigeon, Will Clarke and many more…
