We are delighted to welcome Moussem to BOXPARK Shoreditch for a week-long pop-up out of unit 21.
Moussem empowers women artisans in Morocco by bringing their handmade, expertly crafted rugs and other textiles to your home. Rugs have been woven for generations by the indigenous Amazigh people, each piece telling its own story and each style emblematic of the maker’s tribe.
Tell us about yourself...
My name is Sarah Allaoui, born and raised in Morocco and I'm the founder of Moussem. I launched Moussem in December 2020 as an initiative to support Amazigh women artisans back home. I’m Amazigh myself and it is a heritage I only recently reconnected to. The death of my grandma was a turning point in my determination to materialize the project, as it motivated me to create a brand that would help me “reconnect” with my roots and help my community back home. Many women artisans in remote Amazigh towns and villages in Morocco have been disproportionately affected by Covid-19, which has stalled the bulk of their textile sales and pushed them to give up the craft. My mission today is to link these women directly to the UK consumer, providing them with a sustainable income and ensuring fair trade. The name Moussem stems from an ancient Amazigh tradition of an annual gathering of Amazigh tribes to celebrate our heritage and preserve our culture. We are excited to bring our rich colours and textures to Box Park!
