Tell us about yourself...
Carib and Co Brunch are more than just a Brunch... Carib & Co Brunch are a community interest company which run a range of event based services such as poetry and comedy evenings, art exhibitions, fashion shows, music gigs, pop up shops, markets and entrepreneurship. Through the Covid Awareness Fund they have successfully ran a series of social media events during lockdown 2021 primarily for young Black, Asian and Multi Ethnic communities in West London. They take pride in delivering top-class events, providing the best food, entertainment and panel discussions for their visitors. Expect bespoke playlists, panel talks about current issues such as mental health, covid-19 and much more.
Carib and Co Brunch started back in 2019. Founded by secondary school teacher Jade Weir-Reid, the Carib & Co Brunch came from her desire to combine entertainment with an opportunity to educate and empower her peers. ‘I found that in the community, there were many comedy events but not enough events that give you inspiration, empowerment or education on finances, or mortgages,’ she explains. ‘So, I came up with an idea of creating an event where not only people can have fun and be entertained but can also be inspired and empowered at the same time.’ Their first event was held in West London in 2019 and was hosted by Judi Love, the Carib & Co brunch included comedy from Axel Blake and guest speeches from Naomi Collett, from Money Talks Education, and Cephas Williams, the founder of campaign 56 Black Men, which aims to challenge negative stereotypes unfairly attributed to black men.
Carib and Co Brunch Community Interest Company was recently shortlisted for The National Diversity Awards - Positive Role Model Award (Race, Religion and Faith) for their outstanding community work during lockdown 2020. In October and November 2020, they helped raised an incredible £3,400 in just two months for charity Black Minds Matter UK and delivered the first ever shopping market experience at BOXPARK Wembley and BOXPARK Croydon to support more than 40x Black British Businesses. Their work was featured in Getty Images, Yahoo News and much more.
Carib and Co Brunch have seen an increasing school and university demand in local, personalised and experiential brands. In November 2020, they raised an incredible £400 in one hour at a London Secondary School to support British businesses during lockdown. Their next university pop up takes place on Wednesday 8th December 2021 at a London University. We will also provide a dyslexia presentation workshop for staff and students in celebration of Disability History Month.
Their recent BOXPARK Wembley event took place in September 2021 and was hosted by Mr Cee, the Carib & Co brunch included comedy from White Yardie and performances from Doktor, Maryam and TStarNay as well as a small business market place for the local community.
Their last Black History event took place in West London in October 2021 and was hosted by Ty Logan, the Carib & Co brunch included performances from Mr Cee, Aurie Styla, Big Zeeks and guest speeches from Cephas Williams, the founder of campaign 56 Black Men and Portrait of Black Britain.
Carib and Co Brunch pop-up shop initiative helps to promote and grow Small Independent British businesses. We have seen an increasing retail demand in local, personalised and experiential brands to deliver a unique shop pop up shop experience to our visitors. Our next pop up shop takes place at BOXPARK Shoreditch from Monday 29th November to Sunday 5th December 2021 to support 26x small businesses.
