Tell us about yourself...

Jade Weir-Reid, the founder and director of Carib and Co Brunch Community Interest Company is a qualified secondary Design and Technology teacher possessing over five years teaching experience. Since 2019, she has also gained experience teaching English, Literacy, Computing and Art.

Jade studied at London College of Communication (UAL) completing degrees in both Art and Design and Graphic Design.

Jade gained recognition for an array of striking and thought-provoking photographs. Determined to succeed, she volunteered as a photographer for African Fashion Week London, which featured and showcased the works of African designers such as Ninola and Eldimaa.

This determination, coupled with her enthusiasm and photographic skills, has opened many doors for Jade. Jade’s work has been shown on the BBC Africa news site and in a variety of magazines and newspapers; including Pride, Black Beauty, Afro Hair and The Harrow Observer.

Jade went on to be involved in London Fashion Week, Britain and Ireland’s next Top model, The Calo Festival, Top Model of Colour and Fashion Finest.

Stanmore College added her to the AoC’s new Hall of fame, known as its Roll of Honour. Their vision is to see great colleges transforming lives and communities through teaching and learning for student success.
Jade is also actively involved with the University of the Arts (UAL) Alumni of Colour Association and has spoken about her journey at the AOCA winter showcase in November 2019.

Jade has obtained extensive experience as a photographer, teacher and also volunteers in her local community by organising fundraising events that support local charities, small businesses and the local community.

During lockdown, Jade has been volunteering by fundraising for charity Black Minds Matter UK and raised an incredible £3,400 in just three months. Black Minds Matter UK helps to provides free mental health resources and therapy to the black community. Jade, also created the very first market place at BOXPARK Wembley and BOXPARK Croydon to support Black British Businesses. Our work was featured in Getty Images, Yahoo News and much more.

Carib and Co Brunch all started back in 2019. Founded by secondary school teacher Jade Weir-Reid, the Carib & Co Brunch came from her desire to combine entertainment with an opportunity to educate and empower her peers.
‘I found that in the community, there were many comedy events but not enough events that give you inspiration or education on finances, or mortgages,’ she explains. ‘So, I came up with an idea of creating an event where not only people can have fun and be entertained but can also be inspired and empowered at the same time.’
The event held at the Geo Bar in Eastcote in 2019 was hosted by Judi Love, the Carib & Co brunch included comedy from Axel Blake and guest speeches from Niaomi Collett, from Money Talks Education, and Cephas Williams, the founder of campaign 56 Black Men, which aims to challenge negative stereotypes unfairly attributed to black men.
Carib and Co Brunch hosts cultural and diverse calendar of events throughout the year, including brunches and festivals, featuring food, fashion shows, live music, art, dance, poetry, comedy with a hint of cultural, financial and mortgage education. They take pride in delivering top-class events, providing the best entertainment and panel discussions for our visitors. Expect bespoke playlists, panel talks about current issues such as mental health, covid-19 and much more. Their next festival takes place at Lambeth Town Hall on Sunday 6th June 2021 to support Small Businesses plus providing a range of complimentary keynote speakers and workshops to benefit the local community. Black Minds Matter UK are planned to attend in person to deliver a talk about mental health during the pandemic.

Carib and Co Brunch also sells products on behalf of small businesses, by providing school pop-up market style initiatives that help to promote and grow British businesses. They have seen an increasing school demand in local, personalised and experiential brands. In November 2020, they raised over £400 in one hour at a London Secondary School to support British businesses during lockdown. Their next school pop up takes place on Monday 7th June 2021 at a London Secondary School. We also provide workshops and training for staff in safeguarding and SEND as well as an educational musical performance assembly for students.

Carib and Co Brunch pop-up shop event initiative helps to promote and grow British businesses. We have seen an increasing retail demand in local, personalised and experiential brands to deliver a unique market style pop up event experience to our visitors. It’s a fantastic opportunity for brands to rent and manage their own space for a day in an iconic British event space. We currently work with BOXPARK and Lambeth Town Hall. Our next pop up shop takes place at BOXPARK Shoreditch from Monday 31 May to Sunday 6th June 2021 to support small businesses. We will be selling arts, baby products, candles, Caribbean tin foods, clothing, greeting cards, hampers, home wear and much more.
