BOXPARK CEO Roger Wade appeared on Sky News' Ian King show this morning to discuss the rent crisis as today (Tue 29 Sept) marks the “quarter day” when shop and restaurant landlords traditionally collect one of four chunks of yearly rent.
With the Government yet to set out how landlords and commercial tenants should share the pain of lost income while socialising and shopping are cut back, having a rent solution is more crucial than ever.
During the interview with Sky News, Roger Wade expresses his concerns about the lack of clarity or guidance from Government on commercial rent and highlights how an extended moratorium by the Government would spell disaster for both operators and tenants.
As both a commercial landlord and operator, Mr Wade said “we will only succeed if our tenants succeed” and is calling on the Government to tackle the issue of rent head on to prevent further damage to the industry.
