Sustainability has been part of BOXPARK’s foundation right from the beginning. The original development was literally built from recycled shipping containers - one of the most sustainable methods of construction. We are a people-first organisation but also care a lot about how we affect the planet and environment around us.

For a decade we have been putting our people and planet at the heart of BOXPARK. Whether it’s supporting local charities or giving back to our local communities through events and activities, here’s how we are playing our part in moving towards a sustainable future…

Community is at the heart of BOXPARK, so we do everything we can to promote and support positive engagement. We work closely with a wide range of local community groups, stakeholders and charities to deliver meaningful events, campaigns and fundraising activities.

What we do

  • We deliver nearly 1000 events per year; many of which are free for our local communities.
  • We are committed to raising awareness and funds for Youth Legacy Zone to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and give them a safe space so they can grow into the best version of themselves.
  • We champion diversity and inclusion throughout our teams, traders, events, partners, and our neighbourhoods.

  • We are looking to make a commitment to our staff training and introduce apprenticeship schemes across our community.
  • We want to raise significant funds for Youth Legacy Zone and deliver a fundraising events programme.
  • We want to deliver a community-led programme of events and activities for London Borough of Culture 2023 in Croydon.

We have implemented various operational policies and guidelines to reduce our carbon footprint across key pillars of our organisation.

What we do

  • We are proud to receive the bulk of our bar products from just two key suppliers which minimises deliveries to the site.
  • The majority of our food traders offer vegan/plant-based menus.
  • The majority of our restaurants use recyclable packaging, cutlery and cups.
  • All BOXPARK bars use recyclable cups.
  • We have digitised our operations e.g. POS system which provides digital receipts (saving paper)
  • The majority of our waste is diverted from landfill.
  • We use energy-efficient lighting (mostly LED) and all kitchens are electric powered.
  • We offer a cycle to work scheme to all employees.
  • We recycle all of our traders’ cooking oils and fats from the kitchens into fuel.
  • We offer the provision of cycle storage at all of our sites and offices to encourage non-car based transport.

  • We aim to achieve Zero to Landfill for all waste streams.
  • We are looking for more efficient ways to recycle with a bigger emphasis on Dry Mixed Recycling, Glass and Food.
  • We are aiming to install motion sensors and timed-lighting across our venues.
  • We regularly review our energy providers’ fuel mix and existing heating methods  to obtain the most renewable energies available.
  • We work with our tenants to promote the benefits of reducing their energy use by switching to timers and turning off non-essential appliances when not in use.
  • We review our suppliers regularly and are working with them to ensure our products are ethically and sustainably sourced.
  • We are committed to working on solutions to close the loop of recycled plastics, including re-using our recycled cups to create products like staff uniforms.
  • We aim to be a greener business by reducing our levels of wastage across our venues. We will transition to more eco-friendly suppliers and do a full audit of our carbon footprint.

We are working hard to improve best practices for corporate governance with the goal of enhancing our relationships with stakeholders.

What we do

  • We have a dedicated CSR & Community Team who are reviewing our CSR policies (including Codes of Conduct) and management systems; monitor compliance with policies, commitments and regulations.
  • We review and monitor stakeholder relations and consider opportunities for collaborations.

  • To have a board-approved CSR strategy that is implemented across the organisations.
