The last Friday of each month has become something of a local phenomenon at Boxpark Croydon. XEL Club's monthly residency has been bringing positive vibes and great music, inspired by some of the most iconic artists in music today. We caught up with, events manager, Yusuf Haastrup to find out more...
Tell us who you are and what you do.
My name is Yusuf Haastrup and I’m a DJ who specialises in 90s and 00s dance floor fillers and afrobeats; the naughtier the better. I also play other genres like funky, garage and even some commercial tracks too.
How did the idea for XEL Club come about?
The idea for XEL CLUB came about when me and my mate, WAVI, decided that we wanted to start an events company. We wanted to curate events dedicated towards great music and great vibes.
What can visitors expect from XEL at Boxpark Croydon?
We always deliver a good time with great music because we really want to give the people something special, as well as something that will make them want to come back again and again.
Have there been any standout moments for you so far?
Absolutely! Seeing the Boxpark Croydon dance floor buzzing with smiling faces is a major highlight for us! Outside of that, I’ve also had loads of international bookings in places Finland, Dubai, Barcelona and France. We're constantly trying to reach out and share our party with everybody.
Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
It's a real eclectic mix; there's people like Jay Z, Giggs and Wretch 32, Baseman and Kojo Funds, and then there's a whole mix of RnB artists who have also been a major inspiration.
Who should everyone be listening to right now?
Right now, I think everyone should be listening to Te dness and Kojo Funds.
Finally, what was the last song you listened to?
DJ PaperCuts - It's OKAY
