September's GRL GNG at Boxpark was a true force to be reckoned with. We caught up with artist extraordinaire, Tee, to find out more about her own influences and what the rest of the year has in store for her!
Tell us who you are and what you do.
My name's Tee and I am a singer / songwriter and all round creative. I was born in London and raised in Dagenham, hold tight my Essex people, and I'm ready to show the world what I'm about!
How did you get involved with GRL GNG?
I have always followed their socials and admired the genuine support for upcoming female talent; really giving us females artists a platform to grow and shine at the same time. It made me want to work with them to build on that.
How would you describe the event at Boxpark last month?
The show was amazing! From the moment I walked into the venue the energy was right. I felt at home instantly with so much beauty and laughter in the room. My performance was very empowering I was the last act for the night and the energy felt just right!
GRL GNG empowers female artists, why is that important to you?
I think its important because some individuals don’t come from an environment where they get support or they aren’t the most confident. All they have Is raw talent and GRL GNG really pushes your potential and makes you feel like anything is possible and that is important to me. If it weren't for support and confidence, people would give up on their dreams.
Who have been some of your personal inspirations?
I have always been a true fan of Amy Winehouse, from her sound to her carefree personality and style. Also, Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu were some big inspirations in the early days of my musical journey because of their strong messages in the music they wrote, even down to the heart felt performances. Real music for the soul! Real girl power!
What does the rest of 2018 have in store for you?
I am gonna make the end of this year unforgettable. I have a few projects dropping and I'm so excited for my supporters to hear some new stuff! My next few pieces really demonstrate the person I am becoming and my creative fun bubbly self!
What was the last song you listened to?
The last song I listened to was Level Up by Ciara love that song! I feel like everyone should level up and chase their dreams!
