On Thursday 25 January, the Gurls take over Boxpark Croydon for an event like no other. Platinum-selling artist, Charlotte Devaney is bringing her crew down to the BoxBar to deliver some big beats for your entertainment. We had a chat with Charlotte to find out more.
For those who don't know, tell us who you are and what you do.
My name is Charlotte Devaney and I am a DJ, producer and artist, as well as the CEO of Super Gurl!
How did the idea for Super Gurl come about?
I really wanted to create a brand for Talented Female Artists and showcase what we can do! It’s hard for females out there; it’s a lot harder to get taken seriously, and the ratio of male to females on festival and club line-ups is still very low, so I set up Super Gurl to try and help change that!
What can visitors expect from your event at Boxpark Croydon?
Everyone can expect sick beats and big vibes! I'll have acclaimed singer, songwriter, Tanya Lacey and, the incredibly talented, Miss DJ Candy along for the ride, too.
Who have been some of your biggest musical influences?
Now you're asking! I have so many, my taste in music is extremely broad; from Missy Elliot to Lauryn Hill and Buster Rhymes, to Fabio & Grooverider, LTJ Bukem, even Bob Marley, Jamiroquai and Oasis. I love so many different styles and genres.
Who should everyone be listening to right now?
There are so many exciting artists out there right now, especially female artists! Everyone should check out Bali Baby, she's a really cool rapper from Atlanta. Ms Banks did a remix of my track Bass Dunk, with Lady Leshurr & Fatman Scoop, this year, she's amazing. Also, Kyntro; he's another sick rapper from New York. There is so much talent out there!
What does 2018 have in store for you?
2018 is set to be a busy year for me; I have a lot of music coming out with some exciting collabs! As well as that, I'll be travelling the world DJ-ing and continuing to fly the flag for the girls!
Finally, what was the last song you listened to?
A$AP Ferg - Plain Jane Remix ft Nicki Minaj
