The mighty GRL GNG returns to Boxpark Shoreditch tonight with a hoard of incredible female performers on the bill. One such artist is Ravy, we caught up with her to find out more.

Tell us who you are and what you do

I’m Ravy from The Hague, Netherlands. I moved to London a few years ago. I’m a rapper, singer/songwriter, producer and a dancer; It’s a lot, I know.

How did you get involved with GRL GNG?

I got to know about GRL GNG in July when I was looking for events to visit on Eventbrite. I approached the organiser, Naomi, and introduced myself and asked if I could perform at the event and that’s how I got involved. You have to put yourself out there if you want to get the best opportunities.

What can we expect from your performance tonight?

My fans will tell you I’m a performer, so I will bring a lot of energy to that stage. I’m going to give Shoreditch a song that I worked on with Atlanta producer, Bobby Kritical and Compton rapper, PutYaHEARTInIt. It’s a dope international collaboration. I also have South London artist, Lola Dart, joining me on my final song which is on a garage beat I co-produced with Shafique Roman. It’s going to be a vibe!

GRL GNG empowers female artists, why is that important to you?

Because the music industry is a male-dominated business with roughly 17% being female artists. It’s even worse when it comes to the recording studio. That just seems unfair to me and I think a platform such as GRL GNG make a difference. Females need to support each other.

Who have been some of your personal inspirations?

Well that’s a long list: Missy Elliot, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, Joyner Lucas, J Cole, Eminem; just to name a few.

What does the rest of 2018 have in store for you?

Shows! Do as many shows as I can. I want to make sure people know my face and sound. Also, my team recently opened a music studio, designed specifically for female artists. It’s called Cactus City, so I want to work with as many talented female artists as I can in the next few months. Any female artists out there follow me, send me a DM, let’s see if we can work.

What was the last song you listened to?

Bishop Briggs – Dead Man’s Arms. I heard that song on an episode of Power and I had to hear it again. Such an amazing song. Production, lyric and vocals are perfectly combined.

You can catch Ravy tonight at Boxpark Shoreditch with GRL GNG  from 7 - 10pm. Don't forget to follow Ravy on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Soundcloud and YouTube!
