Poptata have been serving up the meanest fries in Croydon and, soon, they'll be making the leap to our big sister site in Shoreditch too. It's no wonder these fellas have been killing it in the potato game. These chips are fresh, fluffy, crispy and coated in any flavour you could possibly want. So, we sat down with, co-owner, Marco to find out more about Poptata's passion for quality fries, their mounting success and which song best represents their special spuds.
Tell us who you are and what you do.
We are Poptata and our story began in May 2015 when we set up a temporary gazebo for a weekend in Portobello Road market. We really wanted to share our passion for great fries with Londoners as we knew they'd love it, who doesn't love great fries?!
The chip is an institution, a monument to British culinary tradition and we think it was something to be celebrated. So, with a modern style, Poptata presented a new fresh snack-time alternative, taking our menu to London markets and festivals. Now, Poptata serves up the most delicious chips and cheesy fries and dips in London, with branches at Boxpark Croydon, Boxpark Shoreditch and Portobello Road.
Which song best sums up Poptata?
It would have to be 'Come Get It Bae' by Pharrell Williams!
What can customers expect from you at Boxpark Croydon?
A fresh, high-quality, yet simple take on a popular British snack; served to you with a smile from our welcoming and cosy outlets. We think we've created a snack-time revolution and we want to share that with as many people as possible.
Which other Boxpark Croydon trader would you recommend to customers?
Feed Me Primal makes for a healthy main meal. Gemma's menu is constructed from wonderfully fresh and wholesome ingredients and it's absolutely delicious. For afters, it would definitely have to be a sweet jar of strawberry jam from Les Deux Amies, to take home.
What is your favourite thing about Croydon?
The people! Definitely the people. We've been fortunate to meet so many fantastic local residents since we opened here in Croydon. It's the customers that make it and it's great to get to know the good people of Croydon and share our love of great fries with them.
How do you feel about opening another Poptata in Boxpark Shoreditch next month?
We can't wait! It's been such a brilliant journey and we're just so excited to share our fries with new customers. Boxpark and Poptata feels like the perfect partnership and so it's great that we're able to open units at both Croydon and Shoreditch!
What would your last meal on Earth be and why?
It would definitely be a generous portion of our Legendary Cheese Lucifer Fries; double cheese, herbs and tangy hot sauce! I'd wash it down with a cool, refreshing can of Beavertown Gamma Ray.
