Oatopia A

After their massive success at Boxpark Croydon, Oatopia is making the leap north of the river to Boxpark Wembley! We caught up with founder, Sophie Coleman, to get the lowdown on what you can expect.

Tell us who you are and what you do.

We are Oatopia, an independent, family owned and run business that started in 2011 with a passion for oats and living a healthy lifestyle! Our aim is to provide healthy and wholesome food on the go, and to spread the love for oats!

How did Oatopia come about?

My family is really sporty and when my sister and I were younger we would travel together around the country to compete in various types of sports events. At the events there was rarely food on offer that we wanted to eat and that’s where the idea for Oatopia was born.  We decided to convert a trailer into a catering unit called ‘The Oat Hut’ and started serving cakes, coffee and porridge at local sport events. Then we tried the festival market. Our first festival was Latitude Festival and going felt like a big gamble as festival pitches are very expensive! However, to our surprise, we were popular and we came to realise that porridge lovers are everywhere! We re-branded to ‘Oatopia’ and soon after partnered with Mornflake who supply us with the tastiest British oats.

We opened at Boxpark Croydon in the summer of ’17 and today we continue to attend festivals and events in our vans, trade at Boxpark Croydon and soon Boxpark Wembley as well!

What song best sums up your brand?

It has to be Sister Sledge, We Are Family!

What can customers expect from you at Boxpark Wembley?

Delicious food and drink and amazing service! Our speciality is in oats so we offer freshly made porridge for breakfast, as well as fruity oat smoothies and barista coffee. Oats are really versatile which means we can be really creative in the kitchen. So far, we have created an amazing range of over 25 flavours of flapjack, many of which are vegan and inspired by British cakes such as the classic almond Bakewell and Battenburg, as well as energy balls and biscuits. We also have savoury items on the menu for lunch including burgers and toasted bagels, plus monthly specials that have included risotto (nicknamed ris-oat-to) and lots of great meal deals.

What is your favourite item on your menu?

100% the vegan burger right now! Our Xmas special is chestnut and cranberry and I could eat it every day. In fact one of the burgers, followed by a slice of the Xmas flapjack - yes,  it’s got marzipan and icing - or our Carroat cake, and an Oatly macchiato is my dream lunch come true.

Which other Boxpark trader would you recommend to customers?

Our next-door neighbours Poptata are great! They serve great fries, which also happen to be the perfect accompaniment to our burgers, and the staff are lovely.

What is your favourite thing about Wembley?

To be honest it’s not an area that I know well enough to say yet. The shopping outlet is great though and who doesn't love a good bargain!
