Spotlight: Nokia Times
— 16 Nov 2017, 16:55
Tonight, we're launching a major new event at Boxpark Croydon - Nokia Times. To give us the lowdown on what to expect, we caught up with the event's creator, David Byrne.
Tell us who you are and what you do.
I'm David and I'm the Events and Marketing Manager at Boxpark Croydon, and the founder of Nokia Times.
How did the idea for Nokia Times come about?
It's an idea I've been toying with for a while. Its a throwback-style evening that is rooted in UK music, like garage, UK funky, jungle and the early days of the grime scene, before it was even called 'grime'. That is one of the reasons for the name; it has that nostalgic feeling. Also Nokia's are associated with durability and that's exactly what these genres have been, durable, standing the test of time.
What can visitors expect from Nokia Times at Boxpark Croydon?
Tracks that make you say 'I remember this one?!'. There will also be some classic sing- along songs that take you back to those good old fashioned UK club nights.
Who are the special guests joining you for tonight's event?
Tonight, we've got the legendary MCs, Versatile and PSG coming down to host and get the party started. We also have Damnshaq, Donch and Chris K Martin on the decks.
Finally, what was the last song you listened to?
It was Dave & Mo Stack 'No Words', but if we're keeping it in line with the Nokia Times theme, it was Pay As You Go Cartel 'Champagne Dance', funnily enough!
Nokia Times kicks off tonight in the BoxBar from 8pm!
