Carioca has created a Brazilian buzz at Boxpark Croydon and it's easy to see why. The tasty and authentic menu is dished up with with full flavours, eye-catching colours and a whole heap of Brazilian flair.
We caught up with, restaurant manager, Maurilio as he told us what brought Carioca to Boxpark Croydon, what inspires his delicious menu and why he loves food so much!
Tell us who you are and what you do.
Carioca launched in Brixton’s Market Row in 2012. The name is taken from the local term for the vivacious people of Rio de Janeiro, its bold colours, rich flavours, and diverse culinary influences from the Portuguese, Africans and native South Americans. We do an innovative take on traditional Brazilian favourites as well as our own signature dishes and we're delighted to bring the street-food version of our original menu to Boxpark Croydon.
Which song best sums up your brand?
What do you bring to Boxpark Croydon?
We offer a menu that won't disappoint. There's so much choice and we guarantee there is something for everybody.
For a starter or a bite to go with a beer or Caipirinha, we have a selection of coxinhas, empanadas, pastel and croquettes to die for.
For something bigger or brunch-y, you must try our famous gluten-free muffins. We take a homemade maze muffin, and add a choice of toppings to suit all tastes, crowned with a poached egg.
We also have rich and tempting dishes such as the pulled beef, plantain, black beans on our 'Copacabana' or, for the adventurous vegetarian, try the 'Samba' with roasted vegetables, avocado and aubergine puree.
If you're looking for those authentic Brazilian flavours then you won’t regret trying our feijoada - a Brazilian black bean stew, with meat, rice and
greens. We also do a less authentic but just as tasty version for the vegetarians. If you love football and have a big appetite then the Pele Burger is for you! It has beef ribs, bacon, egg, churrasco sauce and fresh 'slaw.
What is your favourite item from your menu?
The beef croquettes and the chicken coxinhas! I also really like the Copacabana and the chicken caipira. I just can't stop eating...really, I can't!
Which other Boxpark Croydon trader would you recommend to customers?
The food on offer at Boxpark Croydon is so good. Nanny Outars, Poptata, Mamalan and Donde are definitely amongst my favourites. Have I mentioned that I love food? Seriously, I can't stop eating. Someone stop me!
What is your favourite thing about Croydon?
If you were on death row, what would be your last meal and why?
It would have to be a box of Nutella doughnuts from Dum Dums! I love food!
