Friday night is almost upon us and this week we're bringing big reggae vibes to Boxpark Croydon to kickstart your festive weekend. BrukOut returns to the BoxBar to deliver the authentic sounds of dancehall reggae and Caribbean soca, for your listening pleasure. We caught up with BrukOut's head of events and marketing to find out more...

For those who don't know, tell us who you are and what you do.

We are BrukOut - a multi platform celebration of Caribbean music and culture.  We are a record label, a monthly club night, a live events team, a weekly newspaper column in 'The Voice' and a vibe you have to experience to understand!

How did the idea for BrukOut come about?

Seani B is a Grammy award winning BBC presenter, remixer, club DJ and producer, and he is the founder of BrukOut. His partners include Ray Paul, a founding member of the team that started 1Xtra, and Yaw Owusu, an A&R and the curator of the Liverpool International Music Festival.  The three of them wanted to combine their unique and varied skill sets and couple them with their unbridled passion for the music and culture from the Caribbean, to bring a new wave of music to the widest possible audience.

What can ticket holders expect from the event this Friday?

Expect us to heat up your December with some Caribbean vibes.  Come prepared to discover exactly why we are called BrukOut.  Who knows, there may even be some special guests...

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

The potency and vibrancy of the music scene in the Caribbean will always be the biggest influence - authenticity is vital to our ethos at BrukOut

Who should everyone be listening to right now?

E-Mak and Big Zeeks.  They've just completed a European tour with Jamaican singer Kranium. Their track "Yo" has become something of an anthem, has been play-listed by BBC Radio and has had multiple remixes featuring some UK All-Stars as well as Caribbean icons.

What was the last track you listened to?

A track called 'Feels Good' by jazz/soul influenced artist XamVolo - the track actually has a BrukOut Remix, so be sure to check it out!

BrukOut kicks off from 8pm on Friday. For more information and details of future events, be sure to follow BrukOut online on Twitter and Instagram.
