Nicky Blackmarket & Fatman D Birthday Festival Video

On Saturday 9 December, Def:inition, the team behind London’s biggest drum & bass events, came to Boxpark Croydon to set the stage for a show of epic proportions.

Nicky Blackmarket & Fatman D’s Birthday Festival was always going to be huge but with a stellar supporting line up and a legion of loyal drum and bass heads, nothing could have prepared us for what was to come. The party started at 2pm when the gates opened for the crowds to step in and sink their teeth into some old school jungle. The pace maintained throughout the afternoon as DJs and MCs came together to throw down a selection of classic DnB anthems, as more ticket-holders continued to fill the venue. Fortunately, some lucky punters were able to nab a ticket on the door but for those who couldn’t make it, we ran a feed of live videos and images on Facebook and Instagram.

Just before 8pm, Mr Nicky Blackmarket himself took to the decks with the vocal support of Fatman D. After going all in with a riotous mix of Drum & Bass floor-fillers, the double act then played a moving tribute to Dominator – the young DJ and producer who tragically lost his battle with cancer, earlier this year. His untimely passing rocked the drum & bass world, with producers, DJs and MCs all paying their respects, so it was both emotional and heart-warming to remember him at this event with ‘Resurrected’ by Mazie ft. Flat T.

Nicky and D’s set was swiftly followed by the legendary sounds of Logan D who kept the tempo high and threw the birthday celebrations into overdrive.

It’s not often we get to throw a party of this scale and it’s the first time we’ve dedicated a whole day and night to DnB but it seemed like you lot couldn’t get enough. The energy was relentless and there were good vibes all around.
