Melissa is a celebration of design. For almost 40 years, the brand has been recognised worldwide for the innovative works on its key raw material: a recyclable PVC that is 100% cruelty-free and has an irresistible scent. Melissa has associated itself with iconic names in design, fashion and art, collaborating with Comme des Garçons, Jeremy Scott, Vivienne Westwood, Zaha Hadid, among others. Although it was born in Brazil, Melissa is a global brand not only because it can be found in 96 countries but also for its cutting edge aesthetic which surprises fans all around the globe.

Created in 1979, Melissa believes in the power of co-creation and has always been in the forefront of innovation when it comes to design. Since the 1980’s, the brand has associated itself with the most iconic names in design, fashion and art, expressing new ideas. Jean Paul Gaultier was its first collaboration, raising the banner of affordable luxury and design democratisation. More than an accessory, the brand is a fashion statement, celebrating the clean lines, organic contours and functional interpretation; turning each shoe into a contemporary icon.

In 2009, Melissa had two designs mentioned in the book “Fifty Shoes That Changed the World” produced by the Design Museum London. It has been also recognised by the IF Design Awards.

The first Galeria store was opened in 2005 in Sao Paulo, to present the Melissa accomplishments: a world of plastic, fashion, art and design. The architectural and design project was developed by the multimedia artist Muti Randolph and became a key tourist destination shop in the city. The vast façade is renewed and transformed for each collection, signed by different artists and Melissa collaborators including: Campana Brothers, Zaha Hadid, Jeremy Scott, and many others.

After the huge success in Sao Paulo, Melissa moved to open their second store in 2012 and their first in the international market, the Galeria Melissa New York. The extremely multicultural city was an inspiring canvas. An introspective space was created in Soho - a perfect setting in one of the busiest parts of the city.

In 2014, it was time for London to receive its own Galeria Melissa. Set in one of the most charming neighbourhoods in the city, Covent Garden. The building selected for the flagship is one of the oldest in the region and has a long history. It was previously home to an aristocratic family, a hotel and a luxury club. Nowadays, the location maintains its nostalgic characteristics, a historical charm that contrasts with the modern plastic of Melissa. In a different interpretation to the other stores, Galeria Melissa London maintains its Georgian architecture from when it was created but adding light, movement and colour on each new installation. Aside from a great creative project, the London concept store boasts a unique buying experience and an intense immersion into the Melissa universe.

Now, in 2018, you can find Melissa at Boxpark Shoreditch. In fact, from Thursday 14 June, you'll be able to access Melissa's exquisite range of cruelty-free shoes made from MetflexTM.

MelflexTM is a revolutionary material made by 100% recyclable PVC that offers more flexibility, resistance and comfort. Melissa also producers dazzling finishing touches with suede effects, satin-like surfaces, glitter and transparent stamps, to name a few.

It is also important to note that the creation of a pair of Melissa does not use any animal resource material. It also takes into account little electricity usage during manufacture, a longer service life, possibility of re-usage and ease of disassembly and recycling. Melissa knows and believes that sustainable development is not an exemption policy, but a mandatory routine which will always deliver a safe and socially responsible product without compromising the design, style and cutting edge nature.

So there you have it - the future of fashion is now.

Melissa opens at Boxpark Shoreditch on Thursday 14 June. You can follow Melissa online on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
