Our next pop-up taking residency in unit 26 is here for a good cause! 'Long Live Southbank' is here to raise funds to open legendary sections of the Southbank Undercroft that holds a special place in Skateboarding history! They'll be selling merchandise and showcasing images of Southbank Undercroft over the years. We caught up with the Long Live Southbank team to find out more:

Tell us about who you are and what you do?

Long Live Southbank (LLSB) is a non-profit community group that came from the skateboarders and creative community of the Southbank Undercroft. Southbank is one of the oldest and most important skateboarding spots in the world, and a key space for street art, graffiti and plenty more. We are set up in order to preserve and build upon the heritage and culture of the Undercroft and are presently fundraising alongside Southbank Centre in order to restore and reopen legendary sections of the space in addition to an adjacent schools and young people’s centre.

Which song best sums up your brand?

We really are very different to what you would traditionally call a brand. We’re very much rooted in our community, London Posse feature in our fundraising film ‘Southbank’s Longest Line’; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuHn0cUqWC8

Or maybe local legend Ben Jobe playing his instrument, sitting by the Thames on a sunny summer’s day. A lot of music is born out of or inspired by Southbank.

What can we expect from your stay at BOXPARK?

We want to ensure people know what we are doing at this phase of our journey and how they can help. We have a table at Southbank itself but with a shop we have much more opportunities. We’ll be launching some new limited edition items too! We want to make the most of this opportunity to raise some funds, and to talk to people and chat to our regular supporters as well as passersby.

Which piece from your current collection is your favourite?

We have so many collaborations with so many great creatives it's hard to pick one. We’re stoked on the ethical products such as the recycled skateboards pendants and jewelry and upcycled skate wax. We’ve got a couple of new t-shirts which we’re hyped on too. One is a contribution from a legendary skater.

What’s the best reason to come to Shoreditch for a shopping spree?

If you meandre through the Shoreditch street maze you will find independent traders and small businesses of all kinds tucked in streets and side streets.

What’s your top Shoreditch tip?

Take a wander over to Nomadic Gardens, the community space just off Brick Lane. In there you will find the Calm Goods skate shop. The guys literally built the place themselves out of found timber and have the warmest hearts you could imagine.

What does the future hold for your brand?

We have been helping skate scenes and spot around the world who have been out under threat. We want to change this societal view that skateboarding is a crime. It actually has so many benefits beyond the physical and creative thinking.

Right now we’re focusing on raising the £790,000 we need to restore Southbank so we have lots lined up for the next few months, including art exhibitions, photographic and film collaborations, appearances at festivals and much more. The focus for the future is really on the end goal of the restoration campaign: opening up this legendary piece of skateboarding history, creating the future for generations to come!
