We're delighted to welcome a The SPot in unit 31 at BOXPARK Croydon, which opens today.
There is an interesting story behind the Mexo-American concept and how it came to be. So we caught up with Sam and Priyan to find out more.
Tell us about yourself...
We are two cousins, Sam, who originated from Brighton and Priyan, from South Carolina. Whatever places our separate journeys took us to on the way, we both ended up in Croydon, where we've both loved living for over a decade. A lot of our menu influences come from the South Carolina side of the partnership as we believed that's where the best food came from. We then both worked tirelessly to get that menu perfected. We are both incredibly passionate about cooking and have been 'competing' with each other over the years, using Whatsapp and Instagram to showcase our creations to each other . We have dreamed of owing a restaurant and bar since we can remember and it was during the lockdown period in early 2020 that we finally decided to do something about it! On a Friday we were talking about our plan, on Saturday we turned the kitchen upside down creating a menu and by the following weekend, we had built a commercial kitchen in our back garden! We then spent the next 10 weeks finishing our 9-5's on Friday, and getting straight in the kitchen to cook right through to Sunday evening. We even delivered the food ourselves, alternating every hour between cooking and delivering. Fast forward to September 2020, and we are incredibly proud to be saying we are opening our first location at Boxpark Croydon. In terms of what we offer, we like to class our cuisine as Mexo-American, we tend to steer clear of fusion cuisine however, there may be one or two items we'd make exceptions for! We use authentic flavours with a modern twist and we take pride in the fact that each and every one of our sauces is homemade. Anyway, we'll let our food do the rest of the talking...

Hands down, The Shrimp Taco - these are game changers!
What does the future hold for your brand?
In 5 years time, we want to have an outlet at every Boxpark location, if not further afield. We want people all over the country to know about our food and we want to be responsible for people adding Mexican (or Mexo-American) to that staple list of classic UK takeaway options (Indian, Chinese, Pizza etc.)
