K+K Street Food specialise in Sri Lankan street food, with their recipes originating from the founder's families.

They are now here to share their passion about their local cuisine with the rest of the world.

K+K are now open at BOXPARK Croydon and it's worth a visit for a look at how they've incorporated cultural art into their unit. It's a sight to behold and the food is pretty amazing as well!

We caught up with the founders to discuss a bit more about their concept...

TELL US ABOUT WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU DO?

All three K+K founders grew up across Sri Lanka by enjoying our mothers relished fresh food made for the families using in-season produce. We believe that there is something unique and magical about Sri Lankan street food, we decided to go from friends to business partners so that we can share our passion about our local cuisine with the rest of the world. But K+K is not just about food. Through showcasing elements of Sri Lankan culture and its art in our unit, we want you to have the experience of being transported to Sri Lanka. As you dig into a bowl of kothu roti, you can imagine yourself sitting at a beachside stall, hearing traditional music. We want to bring our authentic family recipes that will transport everyone from the street side of Croydon, to the colourful markets of Colombo.

WHICH SONG BEST SUMS UP YOUR K+K STREET FOOD?

"Surangani" the most popular classic Sinhalese Baila song that makes us homesick, reminding us of the beautiful beaches, flavoursome food & wonderful smiles of our people! We play this regularly at our store, come and get a slice of the Sri Lankan vibes!

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOUR STAY AT BOXPARK CROYDON?

Fresh local produce, intricate flavours, and a rich culinary heritage. What more do you need for a delicious meal? Sri Lankan food is the food you haven’t eaten yet but should. And at K+K, we bring you the best from the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. Freshly prepared food that’s made with love and to be shared...that’s what Sri Lankan food represents to us.

WHICH ITEM FROM YOUR CURRENT MENU IS YOUR FAVOURITE?

Kothu roti is one of the favourite Sri Lankan street food and favourite among our Croydoners. A delicious blend of Sri Lankan cultures, this quintessential street food is prepared using shredded Godhuma roti, fresh vegetables or chicken, mutton or mixed kothu with our kari sauce made of our mother’s recipe.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CROYDON?

Croydon is one of the culturally diverse and most happening places in south London. The food lovers coming to Boxpark Croydon were very much happy to see our Sri Lankan food and within a few weeks we had lot of returning customers who felt our food was more authentic and fresh. Our vegan options were an instant hit among the vegan foodies in Croydon as our vegan menu changes every day. Our initiative with Too Good To Go, food wastage partner was very much welcomed among the locals.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR K+K STREET FOOD?

Boxpark Croydon gave has the space to bring the fresh, healthy Sri Lankan food in a fast-casual setting.
