INTRODUCING: The Gnarbecue
— 10 Mar 2020, 16:48 by Renée Alleyne
The Gnarbecue are the newest addition to the BOXPARK Croydon family, so we asked them a few questions to give you a picture of what to expect.
Tell us about who you are and what you do?
We are the Gnarbecue. We make meat and sauce heavy US BBQ inspired sandwiches, loaded fries and other comfort food for people who want to live cruelty free. We make all our meat substitutes and sauces in house and get all our bread made bespoke by an amazing craft bakery in Penge. Everything we sell is 100% plant-based and gnarly af.
Which song best sums up your brand?
Spheres of Madness by Decapitated
What can we expect from your stay at BOXPARK Croydon?
Lots of amazing specials to reflect the events held in Boxpark Croydon's events space. We have both a CPFC home and away burger planned, as well as a national special for every country that plays in the Euros. We're going to convert a lot of people who didn't think they could go plant-based, make a lot of new friends from the Croydon folks who already are and generally melt faces.
What is your favourite item on your menu?
Our new BOXPARK Croydon exclusive. The Texas Toast sarnie. Texas toast is doorstop cut brioche griddled in garlic oil, so basically thick slices of fried garlic bread. In between that we are gonna put one of our signature patties and special burger sauce alongside some leafy greens. So far everybody who has tasted it has made some really x-rated noises. So we're pretty amped to unleash it.
What does the future hold for your brand?
We still do load of events around London and the southeast but at the moment we do it in a stinky hired diesel van. So next up is an electric Gnarby-wagon. Followed by our ugly mugs showing up to some of the biggest festivals in the UK (#roadtodownload) then once we've fed the muddy masses we're going to start opening pubs. Fortunately for now Boxpark's bars have everybody's booze needs covered.
Find The Gnarbecue in Unit R69 (next to East Croydon station) from Thursday 12 March.
