Boxpark Croydon's 1st Birthday
— 25 Oct 2017, 20:56
This weekend, spirits are high as we get ready to celebrate Halloween and the first anniversary of Boxpark Croydon.
Yes, if you can believe it, it’s been 12 whole months since Boxpark launched with the help of Eskimo Dance and NME – doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun. We sincerely hope you’ve enjoyed the past year as much as we have. For us, getting to know and work alongside the amazing people of Croydon has been an absolute pleasure, and we hope to bring you more of the food, drink and events that you love over the coming years.
After the launch weekend, we went full steam ahead with a varied events calendar, starting with Heritage, an original event which brought dubstep back to its Croydon roots. Over the next few months, we hosted parties with Amps & Decks, Love Cronx, DJ Ace and, Nation of Billions, with DJ Semtex. Then, as Christmas rolled around, we transformed Boxpark into a festive family cinema to screen a handful or much-loved Christmas classics; including, Home Alone, Polar Express and Elf – even Mr and Mrs Claus paid us a visit. Plus, with a little help from the legendary So Solid Crew, Boxpark’s Christmas light switch-on was an unforgettable night of live entertainment and festive vibes.
In 2017, the events came thick and fast as we curated a calendar of live music, workshops and special events. One such event will live in Croydon infamy – bringing Stormzy back to his hometown for his debut album launch. The night, in association with Red Bull, was electric and Stormzy delivered a towering and unforgettable performance. With summer came the biggest games in sport, which we screened for people of all ages to enjoy on the big screen. In August, we partied with Capita Xtra for their major Brunch n Beats event, headlined by the one and only Mr Tim Westwood.
It’s hard to believe that we’re already rolling toward the first anniversary; it feels like we’ve just gotten started. Anyway, to celebrate our 1st birthday, we have a double-whammy of events this weekend for you to sink your teeth into…you know, like a vampire…because it’s Halloween…never mind.
On Saturday, it’s a Boxpark Halloween in the BoxBar, as our resident DJ and The Beat FM’s, Jay Knox, kicks things off with a spooktacular soundtrack and some special guest DJs. Then Sunday brings you Boxpark Croydon’s 1st birthday bash, with a full day and night of live music and the massively popular, Hip Hop Karaoke. We’ll be joined by our resident DJs and live performances from, Mayor of London’s Gigs 2017 song writing finalist, Rosie Ash and, rising star, Joshua Kyeot. There’ll also be exclusive performances from two of the stars of Croydon’s infamous BRIT School, before an afternoon of live jazz, featuring the Groove Kitchen. Then, it’s into the BoxBar as a local lyricists take to the mic to battle it out in the stellar Hip Hop Karaoke.
We hope to see you this weekend as we celebrate our 1st anniversary in Croydon. It’s been an incredible 12 months and we look forward to bringing you so much more in 2018.
