Boxpark Croydon Wins Major Architecture Awards
— 7 Jul 2017
We’re excited to announce we’re celebrating two revered design and architecture award wins, receiving the Meanwhile award at the New London Awards this week and RIBA London Award 2017 last month. We opened in October 2016, the project was designed by BDP and interiors by Brinkworth.
The New London Awards 'Meanwhile' category recognises projects that embrace the city as a work in progress, enlivening spaces, places and high streets over a short-term period, while supporting long-term ambitions. The awards were judged by an international panel and celebrate the best of London’s newly built and proposed projects across all sectors of the built environment. NLA chairman Peter Murray commented “It’s a phenomenon and if you go there in the evening it is just rammed with young people.”
The RIBA has been celebrating outstanding work for over 180 years, with the awards regarded internationally as a mark of excellence, recognising the best architecture, architects, research and students. On Boxpark Croydon, RIBA London Awards stated "This brilliantly extroverted take on the traditional indoor market, brings a lively energy to the entrance of East Croydon Station; a stopping point on the path to the new developments along the railway."
Roger Wade, our founder and CEO, has this to say "We are really proud to win this year’s NLA award for best Meanwhile use and to win a RIBA award. This is our first collaboration with Gavin Elliott and his team from BDP, and it’s been a pleasure working with him and his team. Boxpark Croydon has had a major impact on the regeneration of Croydon and we are looking forward to launching some further new innovative schemes in the near future.”
Gavin Elliott, Principal, BDP and project director Boxpark Croydon, "Its been brilliant to work on the BOXPARK project with Roger and his team, and I’m naturally flattered that the quality of the design has now been recognised by both RIBA and the NLA. But the greatest pleasure I take from the project is seeing just how successful it has been, as judged by the number of people who go there and have a great time, it’s profile on social media, and the difference it has made to the perception of Croydon as a great place to live & work."
